What is Environmental Education?
The EPA defines environmental education as a process that allows individuals to explore environmental issues, engage in problem solving, and take action to improve the environment. As a result, individuals develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and have the skills to make informed and responsible decisions.
Why is Environmental Education Important?
Our environment is constantly being degraded and depleted. If humans do not understand what is being done and how it impacts them, the environment will be destroyed. This is why it is crucial everyone, especially younger generations understand how the environment and humans are interconnected. Through environmental education, a sense of responsibility, stewardship, and connection to the environment is established. It fosters critical thinking skills, imagination, and empowerment to make a change.
